What do I bring to class?
Do I need to practice? The Expose' Dance Centre recommends that all students practice in order to achieve the best in their dancing. Regular practice enables the students to gain confidence ,flexibility and knowledge in their work.Teaching staff do heir very best to offer training tools so that parents can help their children practice at home via cd's and DVD's. We believe the more students practice the better in which they become and therefore can progress faster. The Sky's the limit! Are parents and relatives allowed to watch classes? To get the most out of your child's dance tuition, we have an open week at the end of Terms 2 & 3 where parents, friends, siblings and other family members may come and have look at how their children have progressed throughout the term. We do not offer this during the term as the children tend to get distracted (especially the younger members of our school) Do I need to attend classes regularly?Students are expected to attend frequently in order to gain the most from their dance training. Parents are asked to phone, text or email if their child is sick or going to be absent. Students who do not attend on a regular basis may not be ready for exams or able to participate in competitions or end of year concerts.
If mychild is away can I organise a make up class? You need to ring to see if there are available places in other classes of the same style. If so then yes you may attend a make up class. We do not refund money if your child is sick or absent.
Do I need to attend Meetings regularly? The Expose' Dance Centre has minimal meetings but when they are called parents are expected to attend. The main meetings are in preparation for the concert and for the start of the new year for new parents to the school.
How is other information relayed to parents and students?Parents are given information through a variety of ways: 1) Monthly newsletters 2) Personal & group emails that pertains to their child 3) Notice table has all the information on display in the foyer 4) Website is regularly maintained and important information is posted. 5) We have a parent liaison who is available most days to answer any questions you have have in person.Note: When contacting via email or phone we will endeavour to answer a question within 24 hours. We read our emails on a daily basis. Teachers are unable to answer the studio phone during teaching times as we are spending precious time teaching. Please leave a message and we will return your call after class or as soon as possible. Is it compulsory to do Examinations?Examinations are not compulsory but are advised as students gain a better technical standard. Students who participate in exam classes are closely monitored as they need to achieve a certain standard in order to pass the international syllabi in which our students are examined by. The Teachers ensure that the students are fully prepared and are confident with the work before sitting for the exam.
Is it compulsory to do Competitions?Troupe Competition Work Troupe work enables the students to develop their performance dance skills as a team. Students are taught routines that are appropriate for their age and standard. We do have troupe classes in order to develop the routines to a competition standard. Competitions are not compulsory but are offered.Students who do wish to participate MUST attend all required rehearsals and are asked to practice their routines at home.Competitions build the students confidence, technique, stage craft, team work and love of performing. The students who wish to participate in Competition work MUST to at least one ballet class per week.Competition students are often asked to perform at other events that come available through the Expose' Dance Agency.Solo and Duo/Trio Competition WorkWe have many students who participate in Solo's, Duo/Trio competition work. Students who wish to do solo's, duo's/Trio's MUST book in prior to the start of the year to book in a time for a lesson. Students are given private tuition in order to have their routines taught to them and to polish the routine. This enables to have a one on one session which is entirely focussed on their dance/performance skills. The students who participate in Solo's, duo/trio's progress further due to this one on one tuition. The competitions that we compete in are of a very high standard and therefore the routines are of an advance standard. Students are expected to practice their routines & flexibility. The students who wish to participate in Competition work MUST to at least one ballet class per week. Is it Compulsory to participate in the end of year concerts? The end of year concert is not compulsory but as it is a fun event and a nice way to end the year. Most don't want to miss the opportunity to perform. We do 2 concerts on the 21st November and they are held at the CUB Malthouse Theatre in the CDB (behind the arts centre). We do a Pantomime style show that lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours. Students aged 2-5yrs only perform in the Matinee show whilst all other students perform in both concerts. There are compulsory rehearsals leading up to the concert. As you can appreciate with this style of concert it takes a great deal of effort and time to put it all together. By performing a Pantomime style concert , it allows students to not only learn dancing but singing & acting which are important skills if they wish to pursue the the performing arts further. The rehearsal process enables the students to make new friends in other classes, learn about teamwork, confidence building and learning about how to put a show together whist developing those performance skills.Again younger students have a shorter rehearsal time due to their age and ability.Parents DO NOT sew any costumes, only hire from the dance school for $15 per costume. Parents are expected to purchase tights, shoes, make up, pins and other accessories as required. Do Parents sew costumes?Parents do not sew costumes they are done for them. We are fortunate to have some parents who have offered to help sew sequins, make sets, make props etc so most do not need to if they don't have time or can't. We pride our school on having fantastic parents who like to be involved in some capacity that they feel comfortable with. We at Expose' Dance centre understand that families are time poor and have other commitments so help is kept to a minimum and only if you are happy to help.it is a great way to be involved in your child's dancing and to be able to meet other parents. We have working bees to do these tasks. ClassesMost classes are available on a trial basis,
